quick post

Just got back from a (brief) jog at Parque las Heras, where I was surrounded by dog-walkers and an old carousel. I’m not in Recoleta anymore… (Seriously, I haven’t seen a pregnant lady in days. Must not be quite as en vogue in this area.) I cut the run short because I need to head to the bank, but since they don’t open until 10 am, I’ve got time to freshen up a bit before I exchange my last US Dollars and attempt to buy a SIM chip for my phone.

Last night Jenny and I wandered to Corrientes for a cheap bite to eat and landed at an empanada place in the Abasto area. It was packed so we figured it would be good. Well, we realized the place was packed because there were two TV sets showing the River Plate futbol game. Needless to say, service was a bit slow. But the food was good: Jenny and I split two empanadas de rocquefort and two de cebolla y queso. (Bleu cheese with green onions; mozzarella with onions. Jenny’s a vegetarian, too, but much stricter than I am.)

I didn’t realize that the Kosher McDonald’s is in the Abasto mall food court; I will have to return with pictures if not also some French fries. I don’t think I can stoop so low as a burger yet. Maybe a McFlurry.

As we were walking back, we saw a truckload of cartoneros drop off a few individuals with their carts and bags. I need to research them more; I posted a video and article about them last night. Jenny seems to know a lot about them, but she’s been here since January and was here last May and June as well.

I will say I am enjoying my new place. It is so bright and clean and big and inviting. (The difference living with a boy versus living with a girl I suppose. Well that and a bit more upkeep by the landlords.) I miss the porteros at Arenales, but I am very grateful for automatic elevators (if you don’t know what I am talking about you should be thankful as well.)

Below are a few photos from my last night in Recoleta. We're only on the 5th floor here, so I don't have quite the view.

Today is dessert day and I still have Jenny’s keys, so I should run my errands before she gets home from school.

Chau chau.

Oh my god, that view is amazing, how can you say it is not? Besides, it is in Recoleta, the most fashion neighbourhood in the city, you must have loved it, hevn´t you?
When I made my argentina travel I stayed in Palermo, which is another cute warm neighbourhood. I believe Buenos Aires is a magical place, like if it had been taken from a Disney story. There is European love in the air!
