MALBA #2

Annemarie and I made it to the MALBA today. Finally! And admission was free with our student IDs. (I don't feel so bad using it now that I will be a Grad student in the fall...) For an art history major, she can breeze through museums pretty quickly. But we saw every piece of art in the permanent exhibits and the "Tarsila viajera" exhibit in about an hour. There was a children's art class on the second floor, and a lady stood in front of the Frida Kahlo portrait and told seated abuelas that she was married to Diego Rivera. I'm pretty sure I could've given the presentation she gave with knowledge from my high school Spanish classes, but oh well. From the museum we hopped a cab to Kansas, a restaurant owned by the same people who run Houston's in The States. It's right by the Hipodromo on Libertador. We were promptly seated in a box by the practice tracks. I should've taken notes on the horses for this Sunday's races but instead I stuffed my face with Spinach Artichoke Dip and Spinach Salad with bleu cheese, pecans and raspberry vinaigrette (sans pollo and bacon;) Annemarie had the Caesar Salad with shrimp. Both salads were overdressed but I ate as much spinach as I could manage because it's rare to have a good salad here. Then we waddled over to the subte station and Annemarie told me the Argentine word for an abdominal six-pack: "tortuga," or turtle, because of its shell. Might have to up my jogging route before I see one of those any time soon...
